Painting practice has been a long tradition amongst the students and teachers of Tartu Art School dating back to 1951. At the end of every school year, the school family takes a trip to some place in wealth of nature. In earlier years the locations included: Pühajärve, Pikakannu, Vana-Võidu, Nopri farm, Õisu, Olustvere, Luua etc. For past two years the destination has been Kihelkonna, Saaremaa.
Every day the painting sessions last for 6 hours - 3 hours in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon, which means that every day one students paints two paintings in A2 format. At the wake of every new day, the students are given a theme that they follow and observe. On some occasions, night paintings take place which leads to intriguing discoveries in the morning when the colours come to daylight and tend to be intensive.
